Meet Veronica Day

Veronica Day is our second athlete to represent our Pride Collection.

Veronica has been traveling all throughout Europe as she is training and competing on the United States Intercontinental Cup. Luckily in her few minutes of down time she was able to answer some questions so we can learn who she is!

1. Where are you from? My hometown is Vienna, VA.

2. How did you get into skeleton? I ran track in college and competed in Long & Triple jump. After watching the 2010 Olympics, I noticed that a lot of bobsled & skeleton athletes that were competing for the USA were track athletes in college! So after graduation, I took a trip up to Lake Placid, NY where USA Bobsled & Skeleton is located and tried my hand at the sport. It was love at first sight and I’ve been competing since 2012

3. What does it means to compete for Team USA? I get to go to the track each day and slide with USA on my back. I consider myself extremely lucky to have been born in and to have grown up in the US. I’ve been given opportunities that I may not have gotten had I been born somewhere else.

4. What is your favorite piece of jewelry? My favorite piece of jewelry changes every few months but a pair of earring I received as a gift last year have withstood the test of time thus far! They’re technically studs but in an art deco style with a really interesting backing which has rays emanating. In general, I enjoy small earrings that look outside a standard silhouette and create an entirely new shape.

5. What has been your most prideful moment competing for Team

USA?

I’ve had a lot of wonderful moments competing in skeleton and not all of them are wins. Of course, the medals certainly stand out the most. But often times, I find that after a particularly rough day of training or race that didn’t go as planned, simple successes the following day give me the most pride. It tells me that the negative doesn’t define a career or progress.

6. Do you wear jewelry while competing? Yes! I always wear earrings. I don’t typically wear necklaces because I have an irrational fear that it will fall out of my speed suit while sliding but small earrings are my go to while training and competing.

7. If you could design a piece, what would it look like? This really depends on what it’s for! If I’m competing, it would look pretty different than what I’d wear to an event. I think that’s because as athletes, we live in athletic gear and getting out of it and into something different gives me an opportunity to showcase what I find aesthetically pleasing in a completely different light than I would typically. Regardless some things would not change: gold, geometric & symmetrical!

8. What does the pride collection means to you? I love the silver star earrings! They’re right up my alley with the interesting shape. To top it off, they match our racing speed-suits this year, which have a soft star gradient pattern on the legs. It gives me a little extra boost of confidence going into a race knowing that I (at the very least) look the part! Among the women, we often joke that if you look good, you feel good and feeling good means you slide fast!
